Isshinryu karate is an Asian style of martial arts founded by Chief Grand Master Tatsuo Shimabuku in 1956.  The style itself is based off speed and snap. Training differs widely but like most styles Isshinryu karate emphasizes a fairly equal measure of basic technique training, sparing (kumite) and forms (kata). Forms are stylized patterns of attacks and defenses done is sequence for training purposes. An Art of self-defense as well as sport, Karate has in recent decades proliferated worldwide.  It is one of the most widely practiced of the Asian martial arts, with a large following in the U.S., Japan and Europe.
